Cornish Cheese

Remember a few months ago, I shared a new base yarn picture with you, Radiance Sock?

Well, I made 200g of it into a scarf, Swiss Cheese by Winnie Shih. It was this years Holiday knitting, and I finally finished it on Monday, on the journey up to my Grandpa's funeral.

Had a few hiccups initially, due (I think) to differing cast off methods, but once I understood the designers methods, all was good.

Theres a great balance between the “mindless” garter stitch rows and the more complex hole construction rows, making it a perfect pattern for picking up and putting down without losing your place.

Using a crochet cast (learned through sideways hat knitting a la Wormhead) on for the holes, as I want good stiff hole definition.

Measures 37.5cm/13in wide and 127cm/50in long.

Will be easy to make thinner and longer... you just change the cast on :)

I wear it folded over, so a double thickness scarf, and it has had so many comments so far. I love it, and the yarn is just perfect :)

Radiance Sock will be staying in my inventory, you'll be pleased to hear, as it's perfect for this kind of project!!!

These beauties are what I have been working on this week...

Have done around 6 hours dyeing this week, still taking it slowly....and the change of approach is really working.

I dye what I want, when I want... and it's showing in the quality of the work... well, to my eyes anyway... *GRiNS*

So...I think that my MoJo has returned somewhat :)

All these beauties are now in the shop for PREVIEW only... and the update will go live tomorrow night at 8pm.

What's in my headspace is still plaguing me though...yesterday was a *BAAAAD* day... *sighs*

But, one bad day this week is better than 7 bad days.....so I am thankful for that.

That's me looking on the bright side, by the way...

Friday Inspirations....New Yarns !

So, I spent last Friday playing with new yarns...and these are the two I mainly played with, as they were so inspiring :) Let me introduce "Flump"...a lovely bouncy and squooshy 2ply sock yarn that just takes the dyes so intensely. It will make for a lovely knitted fabric too, because of the high twist..

Ishbel

Another customer show off......because I am constantly in awe of what you guys do with my yarns and fibres!!!

This is an Ishbel ,a pattern written by Ysolda Teague, and Sally made it with a skein of my British Merino Sock, in the "Berrylicious" colourway.....

It also proves, beyond reasonable doubt, that sock yarn is not just for socks!!!

Make, Do and Knit

This is what my stand finally looked like at the weekend....
As you all could see from my previous post, I took wwWWWAAAAAAAY too much yarn with me, hehehehe, but at least now I can have a bit of a hollyday from dyeing and get some other stuff done :)
I had a wonderful time and met a lot of loverlee peeps :)

I have been working on my second trade order for a "Proper" Bricks and Mortar shop this week. The shop is called "...Have You any Wool" run by the most esteemed Charlotte Morgan :)
The shop is located in Swansea, and used to be called "Mumbles"......

Cable Twist IV......Sparkle!!!

Finished these the other day.....and they are so full of win :)
Firstly because I have 52g of the yarn left over to make MORE and secondly because they sparkle :D
They are made from Fyberspate's Sparkle sock yarn, which has 5% sterling silver in it ;)

I bought this roving, Superwash Corriedale, in its undyed state from CapistranoFiberArts on etsy…

Its a really thirsty fibre, the dye struck very quickly on it….but I am very pleased with how it all turned out :)

There’s about 180g in this colourway, all ready to be spun into self striping sock yarn :D

She's here!!!!

Say hello to Lola...the newest spinnerly addition to the Longlegs household!! She's a Louet Julia and she's wonderful!!! She's the big sister of my travelling wheel, Lily, and their parts are interchangeable...so I have 10 bobbins...hehehe

I immediately, well not quite immediately as I had to finish my workload for today, put her together, and put Lily's flyer and last bobbin of my Mum's sock yarn on her, and started spinning :) Because she's taller (and bigger) than Lily, my spinning position is a bit better, and so I don't have as much shoulder pain :D

On a sadder note, I say goodbye to my lovely Louie tomorrow. He's going to live with someone who I've know online for quite a few years now, so I am happy he'll be loved and looked by a new family of four :D

Deep breaths......

We're meant to be completing the sale of our old house tomorrow......so I kept myself from chewing my fingers off today by dyeing this lot up :)

I've called this one "Sophie", as its an extra 200g I did to use up some mixed dye for a custom order, for someone called Sophie ;) I used just primary colours to dye it too, so am a little chuffed!!! I am usually so lazy and used pre-mixed colours, but I felt like a challenge today :)

And this one I have called "Gloria"......I really love it actually......gonna dye it up on some fibre tomorrow :)

All of the above are over on etsy, if anyone wants a a looksee!!!

A fist full of sock yarn :)

I had a play with kettle dyeing in my slow cooker yesterday, which was a lot of fun.....

The base yarn is Wendy Merino superwash 4 ply in white.....

I dyed them all a solid colour first, then squirted on other colours once the dyepot was good and steamy. The dyes exhausted immediately, because of the fact that the yarn was superwash, and also 'cos of the heat.....


Here's the results anyway......they'll be going into my etsy shop at some point this week :)
