Another hat design :)

This design has been on my mind for a long while now....all it needed was the right yarn to inspire me to get it out of my head...lol

I liked the look of all the slouchy hats that the footballers are all wear...but I think they look really boring in black. So I've set about putting it right :D

Its a pretty simple enough design, so I am not sure if I should offer it as a free pattern or a paid for one...whaddya all think?

Cable Twist III

My other two Cable Twists have found themselves new homes, so I felt the need for a new one :)

And what better yarn to use than my new Polwarth 3ply Handspun, "Cairns II"

I am so pleased with the fullness of the colours.....it looks so much nicer in real life :)

Cairns II, 3 ply handspun

I just finished spinning and plying the remains of the Cairns Polwarth I got from Southern Cross Fibres. I’ve plied it with a semi~ solid purple single made up of baby alpaca, silk and cashmere, and then a space spun single made up of olive and a deep turquoise solid merino…

Its turned out really well….picked out all the lovely colours in the Polwarth and enhanced them….

I am going to make myself a Cable Twist Beanie with it, as it will self stripe and look cool...... :)

I haz gotz Seeps!!

My most excellent sewing diva buddy, NicsKnots has made these knitting notions for me, as part of my Stone Soup Challenge purchase for March, and I think they are FAB!!
The lady she buys this particular fabric from calls them "Seeps".... **grins**
Nic's wares can be found on Folksy and also at Fyberspates (as well as on Etsy, Misi and various other places.....I dunno how she keeps up with it all.....lol)
I do rather suspect she's trying to take over the world, one little bag at a time.....which ain't no bag...ahem...BAD thing, as they are ace.... ;)

My tribute to Springtime :)

Have been walking past peoples newly invigorated gardens all week, on the school run.... beautiful crocuses, daffodils and narcissus bursting into an array of colours. That coupled with the gorgeous sunshine we've had this week ahs spurred me on to create something joyous and new.

So, here we have "Spring", a bit of a rework of a past colourway called "Spring Bouquet" but without any cerise.....

Cairns, 3 ply handspun

This was so difficult to photgraph, the colours are a lot brighter in real life. the Polwarth was an absolute dreeeeaaaaam to spin, thats why I have been able to finish it so quickly!!! Wheel pimpage also means I got 117g on my bobbin when I plied it, so wooohoo :)

Theres two singles of the "Cairns" Polwarth in there, and then a solid single of slate blue merino.....

It is beautiful, really subtle (yes, I am aware of the word subtle I'll have you know)...

Not worked out the yardage etc yet, as its still drying, but I think its on the worsted side of DK :)

Finally……have got round to replacing the sliding flyer hooks with proper hooks. I really didn’t get on with the sliding ones, found them to be a real problem when plying, getting stuck in the plied yarn etc, inhibiting me being able to fill the bobbin well and truly. As you can see, there’s a little DIY fail where one of the hooks snapped off as I was twisting it in….bah…..and the hook alignment is a bit wonky too…but hey, I’m a spinner not a carpenter…..lol

Only took me about 5 hours to make it......so it was a superspeedyspin from me for a change :)

My first custom spin!!!

This is my first custom spin :) I have made it for a very talented dyer called Jacinta, out of two of her “Slushies”, which are made up of 50% mulberry silk and 50% 15 micron merino, a complete dream to spin....so soft and easy to draft.……. she has an etsy shop here, and her stuff is amazing :)

She wanted a thick and thin yarn, so I did that (well as much as my inner control freak would let me) over 3 bobbins and plied it last night….havn’t measured it all yet, as its still drying. I am really, really pleased with it, and am very sorry to have to part with it!!!

I have been a bit frivolous of late, buying fibre from various people, but I really COULD not resist this one....I saw it on Flickr and knew it had to be mine..... :)
Its from PoppyFlowerFibers on etsy......and oh my, it is beautiful!!! The colours are so vivid and the fibre so very soft!!!
Yet another one for my list!!! This one is going to be spun 3 ply, with a violet purple solid single and the same in black.....I should have enough for a garment out of it all :D

UK Spinners Swap 3

My parcel from Judith arrived today!!! The 50~50 is hand painted merino is really gorgeous colours (lovely spinning too!) and my fibrey gift is some batts made of black alpaca, hand dyed purple alpaca and silk :) She also made me the most adorable little box, filled with some stitch markers, some folding craft scissors and a hand embellished tape measure with an “S ” on it :) There’s even a little magnet stuck to the inside of the lid for needles…..its ace…. :D
